Playing Dentist

Sep 6, 2013

I recently stumbled across this gift online. Kind of hilarious, and also kind of scary! I typically stay away from words like “Drill n Fill” when explaining how to fix cavities to the little ones… but hey, if it gets your kiddo excited about going to the dentist, then fabulous!

Parents do often ask me what they should tell their child in regards to needing a filling. The simplest thing to say is: “Your tooth has some germs in it, and next time the dentist is going to brush them away.” If your child then asks more questions and you’re not sure how to respond, just say: “Dr. Jen (or whoever your dentist may be!) will show you everything next time.” The important thing is to keep the conversation upbeat and casual. With that mindset, most kids do really well!
